Lifelong friendships. Diversity. Camaraderie. Military kids are truly remarkable. They carry many of the challenges of military life, even though they never chose this path for themselves. They endure deployments, long separations from their service member parent(s), constant PCS moves, changing schools, adapting to life in other countries, and saying “see ya later” to countless dear friends along the way. Yet through it all, they grow into resilient, compassionate, and extraordinary individuals whose strength often goes unseen.

The most common question we hear, whether someone is a Brat or not, is, “Where are you from?” For many military Brats, what seems like a simple question can be surprisingly hard to answer. We often reply, “Well, that depends. Do you mean where I was born? Where I lived the longest? Or where I consider home?”

The truth is, many of us were never just from one place. Instead, we are from everywhere. We are military Brats, raised across duty stations, states, and countries, carrying pieces of each place with us. 

Nomads of the military family, we learned early that home is not always a location, but the people, memories, and experiences we gather along the way.
